This popular chef owned restaurant has moxie! The definition for the word “moxie” uses words like fortitude, initiative, skill and courage, which could easily be applied to the innovative Euro-Asian cuisine that graces every plate served at the restaurant Moxie!

One of the most well-known and respected chefs in the area, Ian Wingate is the culinary moxie man that serves up the creations that have delighted Northwest palates for over 10 years. The restaurant is located directly north across the street from the Davenport Hotel in the heart of the Davenport District, convenient to many entertainment events and a block from main street shopping.

Moxie’s interior is just as hip as it’s food. Corrugated metal and a red neon lit ceiling are offset by a warm wood floor, simple chairs and linen set tables. The highlight is a dark blue wall graced with a Japanese wave mural inspired by Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849), a celebrated Japanese painter and wood engraver. The mural was painted by the chef-owner himself!

The contemporary cuisine artfully blends the exotic flavors of Asia with the classic taste of Europe, complemented with fresh ingredients from the Pacific Northwest. Carefully prepared dishes such as Sesame Seed Seared Yellow Fin Tuna served with red curry coconut sauce, Hawaiian-style grilled flatiron steak and Pepper Crusted Breast of Duck are delighting diners The Asian Seafood Salad features calamari, prawns, clams and tuna sautéed in sweet chili sauce, served over a bed of Asian greens and drizzled with spicy chili oil.

What brings locals back time after time is….the meatloaf! Not just any meatloaf but a chipotle-glazed masterpiece served with the famous Moxie version of mashed potatoes. The Kobe Beef & Portobello mushroom burger with Bleu Cheese is also justifiably praised. Want something lighter? Try a steaming bowl of Hot and Sour Soup or the soup-perfect rendition of French Onion. Save room for desert and sample the banana-caramel torte or another of the sweet satisfactions.

Moxie is summed up in its French inspired motto that confirms, “Every meal should be a blend of sensory art and lasting memories.”
